Each October, readers become Bookworms - setting a reading goal, sharing what they love and raising funds to help young people find their voice.

Booktober supports WestWords’ schools program, bringing professional writers into classrooms across Western Sydney and regional NSW for author talks, workshops, residencies and student publication opportunities.

Because every story needs someone.

Someone to read.
Someone to encourage.
Someone to make space.
Someone to help a young person believe their words matter.

Join as an individual, family, school, workplace, library, book club or team.

Choose how many books you’ll read, how often you’ll read or how much time you’ll make for reading during October.

What is Booktober™?

Booktober is a reading challenge with purpose.

Choose what you want to read during October, set a goal that works for you and invite people to support your challenge.

You can read one book or ten. Read every day or once a week. Read alone, with your kids, with a class, with a book club or through an audiobook on the way to work.

Funds raised through Booktober help WestWords bring professional writers into schools across Western Sydney and regional NSW, giving young people the chance to meet authors, write their own stories and see their words taken seriously.

Because every story needs someone.
