Each October, readers become Bookworms - setting a reading goal, sharing what they love and raising funds to help young people find their voice.

Booktober supports WestWords’ schools program, bringing professional writers into classrooms across Western Sydney and regional NSW for author talks, workshops, residencies and student publication opportunities.

Because every story needs someone.

Someone to read.
Someone to encourage.
Someone to make space.
Someone to help a young person believe their words matter.

As October looms, we’re getting ready for another month of reading, imagination and community.

What is Booktober™?

Booktober™ is quite simply an annual event held during the month of October encouraging people to read more books!

In the process, each person (affectionately known as a Bookworm!) can opt in to raise funds to support WestWords in providing books and literacy programs to under resourced schools within the Greater Western Sydney and Regional NSW regions that may not have access to these types of opportunities.

There’s lots of walks, runs and shaves for charity but now there’s an event where you can stop, breathe and read a book – all for a good cause! It’s really simple. Decide how many books you’ll read during October OR how long for each day you’ll read, make that pledge and encourage your friends and family to support you with a secure online donation.

You can give a kid a book and feed their imagination for a day. Or you can teach them how to write their own stories and change their lives forever.

Through Booktober, together we can do both!
